Education in the US

I am only doing this to see if I can!!!

At last Friday's meeting, I was surprised that we used almost the entire session to discuss the education system in the US, and I was even more surprised to hear that many of our group felt that our present system is a failure. It concerned me that some suggested that this was due to the fact that our system had too many participants who taught "outside of the box." By that I think it was meant that the system sanctioned, too readily, those who would attack the values which we as Americans should- - and most of us do- - cherish. My response to this was, "Well, didn't Copernicus attack the then prevalent system when he taught that the earth went around the sun, not the other way around?

I still feel that way. If our values aren't strong enough to take a little debate, then perhaps they are valid enough for us to embrace.

Dusty You created your FIRST Blog. You are a RADM blogger.

My issues with our education discussion are rooted in the need to look at education - not as a whole, but to be more specific in segregating it into three components. Higher Education, Private Education and Public Education. We live in a country blessed with all three, each with unique issues, challenges and growth opportunities. Each must be given the opportunity to thrive and we will not be left behind in the global arena. Testing and results will dramatically differ and I am an advocate to insure both private and public expand at their own pace - much like the debate between government vs. commercial driven programs.
